The Real Girl

I watched Lars & the Real Girl this weekend. It was really, really good. At the center of the movie is Bianca, a Real Doll that Lars purchases and “dates”. But the movie isn’t really about Bianca so much as it’s about a family communicating and loving each other and Lars’ ability to connect with people. Curiosity got the best of me and I went to the Real Doll website. Holy smokes. Ok, first of all, these things really do look real. If you squint. Secondly, they are pricey. About $6500 to start. So no jobless perv is going to be shopping for a Real Doll. You can mix and match faces and bodies. It’s like a train wreck in there. Go, look. You’ll see. Be sure to check out the FAQs. One of the questions on there is if you can buy a female “skin”. Ew. Silence of the Lambs ew. Oh, and you can buy a she male! For those hard to shop for people on your Christmas list!

A dog numbers meme

I was tagged in this meme by Nevis, and I try to always do the mems I’m tagged for…! So without further ado…Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player than tags 4 or 5 people to also do the meme.

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?   Hmmm…I was 24, working as a Human Resource Manager, dating a motley crew of boys.  CSP, he was in the management training program at his job.  The pugs, not even a twinkle in our eyes.

2. Five Things on my to-do list today. Me: clean house, make dinner, work on growth chart, make jewelry, wash sofa slip cover.  CSP: work til 7, go to Sam’s for milk & stuff, come home & play with pugs.  Molly & Kiki: nap, eat, nap.  Zoe: apparently drag each piece of dirty laundry from laundry room to her bed under the kitchen window.

3. Three snacks I enjoy. Me: Special K protein bars, white seedless grapes, shrimp cocktail  CSP:  Anything by UTZ, anything chocolate, pizza.  Pugs:  Anything they can get their paws on!

4. Things I would do if I were a billionaire: Adopt 3 kids.  Pay off all bills, including credit cards.  Take lots of vacations.  Build fabulous “green” house.

5. Three of my bad habits. Me: procrastinating.  Starting too many projects at once.  Running late.

6. Five places I have lived. Me: Lakeland, FL; Cayce, SC; Fort Mill, SC; Charlotte, NC; Gilbert, SC.  CSP: Minnesota; Charlotte, NC;  Fort Mill, SC

7. Five jobs I have had. Me: cashier at grocery store, concessions stand girl at SkateWorld, Human Resource Manager, Registered Securities Rep for mutual funds company, bookkeeper.   CSP: stocker, produce clerk, manager for grocery store.  Pugs: professional sleepers & snugglers.

And I tag anyone who wants to do this.

Happy Birthday Lisie!

Photobucket Happy 30th Birthday to Lisa today! Lisa is one of my favorite people in the whole world!  I can’t imagine not having her in my life.  She’s the type of friend that you can talk to once a day, once a week, once a month and it’s the same- it’s like you’ve never skipped a beat.  We were instantly family.  Lisa is the first friend I’ve ever had who always says “I love you” at the end of every phone call and visit.  And it never feels weird.  She’s feeling a little weird about being 30 but girl, I promise, 30 is just the beginning of wonderful things for you!  I love you and I can’t wait to see you Friday!!! xoxo

Retail junkies

Well, I thought I uploaded my pics from dinner the other night with the family for Gmommy’s bday, and even though the program deleted them off my camera, they did not save into iPhoto. So…that kinda sucks. But we had a good time. We ate at Ruby Tuesday. CSP and I were talking about the name Ruby Tuesday and I coulda sworn it was a Beatles’ song, but apparently it was a Rolling Stones’ song. After dinner CSP & I went back to Papa & Gigi’s so I could help Papa get set up with his new external hard drive.

We stopped by a new Bloom store on the way home. It was just built a few months in our old neighborhood. It was so nice. We are such grocery store nerds. But what do you expect? I worked in various grocery stores for over 10 years and CSP has worked at his for almost 18! We’ll even check out grocery stores while we’re on vacation. And when we travel there are certain items we pick up at those stores. Like I’m going to Baltimore for Memorial Day weekend and CSP has already put in his order for Tasty Kakes!

Your face will surely show it

I got a new phone today. We arrived at dinner with my family about 20 minutes early. And a cell phone store happened to be right next door. So we went in and were out in time for dinner. I got the Blackberry Curve. I really like it.
Photobucket While we were taking care of business with the lady she stopped and said “I just have to tell y’all something. You are one of the nicest couples I have ever worked with. You can tell how much you love being together. And it obvious how much you love each other, you can see it in your faces. It’s nice to see.” How sweet is that?!? We weren’t making out or anything, just hanging out doing our own thing.  It was nice to hear.

In order to get the good price on the phone I had to sign back up for the extra Blackberry service (internet etc).  I’ll only keep it a few months, but while I’ve got it it sure is fun to twitter from my phone.  And it has a camera.  I’ve never had a cell phone camera!  I feel so connected & high tech!

Sophisticated Kid

Today is my Grandmommy’s birthday.  I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon then CSP & I are headed down to meet up with the fam for dinner to celebrate Gmommy’s bday.  Going out to eat again reminded me of something Jacob said while we were at dinner in Florida last Friday.  It was a Chinese buffet and when he was full he sat back and said “I’m done.  Can I get a box?”  You think that 5 year old has been out to eat a time or two?!? 🙂

Word Time

I read about this group on Dooce and joined.  It looks interesting and I would love it if some of you joined too.  It’s a flickr group where you video yourself reading a list of words each week.  That way we can see if you say crayon or crown, carmel or caramel.  I love hearing different accents.  I plan on posting my videos here each time and I hope you’ll play too!

Non Mom??

I am so mad I could just scream over something I read on Mary Mia’s blog. Teleflora, a flower delivery service:, is running a contest- America’s Favorite Mom.
On the page that lists the semi-finalists for the contest they have broken down the moms into different categories: military mom, single mom, etc. But do you know what they called the category for stepmom’s, grandparents raising their grandchildren, and adoptive mom’s? The NON-MOM Mom’s. NON MOM!!! One of my dear friends is mom to her biological child and her husband’s child from his first marriage and you NEVER hear her call her daughter her step daughter. That is her daughter through and through. The love is the same. And I dare anyone to call anyone who adopts a NON MOM. Again, the love, the work, the time, the everything is the same.

Apparently other people saw this too and complained and Teleflora then changed the name of the category to “Adopting Mom”. But why is it still a separate category? Why aren’t these moms in the same category as moms who gave birth? UGH.

I will never give them a cent of my money. Here is how the page was originally:
Click here to see it in a larger size:
And here is the changed page:

I’m going to hang out on my soap box long enough to send this to everyone in my email address book. Non Mom, puhlease!
