Bless Your Heart

Living out loud in the Carolinas

Saturday we awoke to a note on our door that our neighbor accidentally cut the telephone cable. This is a problem since our internet is DSL. I felt like a true American Pioneer as I tried to survive until today without phone or the web. It amazed me how often over the course of 2 days I would think “Oh I’ll just google that.” or “Ooh, I need to put that in my queue.” So I ended up just having to make a mental list of things I wanted to tell y’all.

My new issue of Real Simple smells like a Cover Girl powder, you know, that Noxema smell. I’d forgotten how much I love that smell.

I’ve been loving me some Craisins lately.

I’ve also been loving Tori & Dean: Inn Love. Although it was kind of off putting to see Sylar at a baby shower a couple of weeks ago.
CSP has been having to work some overnights. This sucks in ways I can’t even describe. I’ve had to resort to using sleep aid pills to get to sleep. The upside is I’ve been reading a lot more (since it’s taking me SO FREAKIN LONG to get to sleep) and I’ve really enjoyed the following books: The Glass Castle, Water for Elephants (esp this one), The Constant Princess, and I’m currently digging Little Children.
I also spent some quality after midnight time late last week reading all about Chew’s horrible experience with her adoption agency.
The long version is now gone and has been replaced with a shorter, yet no less important of a read, version. The whole situation is just heartbreaking for everyone involved, and I salute her bravery in posting the truth.

One of the other interesting things I’ve rediscovered while staying up entirely too late is the informercial. Who knew I needed a Pressa Bella iron so badly? I didn’t buy one- I took an oath when Lisa visited a while back not to spend any money on frivolous things. Speaking of, While I was googling Pressa Bella to provide the link (hey, I’m here for you), I noticed that one of the links that came up was to Yahoo answers and someone actually asked where to buy the iron online. Ok. That kind of stuff annoys me. If you can figure out your computer enough to go to Yahoo to ask where to buy something, why not just type the name of it into your search engine of choice, click on the link, whip out the visa and there ya go. Geez, I gotta do everything around here.

I baked CSP a lemon cake with some kick ass from scratch lemon butter cream icing. Cause with no internet or email or phone or sleep it seemed like the right thing to do. At 3am. He was very appreciative of the cake. But the powdered sugar that covered every inch of the kitchen after my mixer burped it out? Not so much with the appreciating. Thankfully we have 2 little 4 legged vacuums that helped me destroy most of the evidence before CSP came home.

Oh, and I’ve YET AGAIN become the victim of corporate mind reading and idea stealing. See, a long time ago I totally thought that Cheerios were unsinkable. Then they went and made a commercial about the unsinkability that I discovered. No royalty checks ever found their way to my home. Bastards. Much to my dismay I found that Flickr has been reading my thoughts and came up with a Flickr take a bunch of pictures for 24 hours kind of thing. So the deal is that we can play along with the big bunch of kids and do the Flickr thing, or we can do the 2 day thing I was thinking of. Or both. Whaddya think?

Have I mentioned lately how much I am enjoying Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse? Dude. Very much. There’s nothing more fun than teaching your 4 year old nephew to sing “They tried to make Mommy go to rehab but she won’t go, go, go.” Also, my favorite lyric of the moment is “Oh my gosh you must be joking me/ if you think that you’ll be poking me”. I also found an old, long lost Liz Phair cd and have been re-living my girl crush on her. Although I’m growing old and conservative so I stay quiet and skip the F words.

Oh, and my father will be in town tomorrow to take me and my sister and nephews to lunch. Cardboard pizza and germs galore at Chuck E Cheese. This ought to be interesting.

I really liked “Little Children.” We just saw the movie adaptation last night (gotta love Netflix) and it was pretty good. I am usually a book vs video person, and I do think the book was better. I (heart) Kate Winslet and she was really good. I’ll check out the other books on your list.
