crisscrossing this small world
tonight i’m heading to the washington, dc area where natalie (who used to live in rochester, ny where jenny lives) just moved from but where rachel still lives. we’re leaving charlotte for the weekend while suzie q will be here visiting some friends. it’s a small world after all. -
my husband breaks things
we’re heading out tonight to woodbridge, virginia so we can shop at IKEA tomorrow. so last night my dear sweet husband takes the back seats out of my car to make room for all our loot. (don’t worry, they’re supposed to come out- it’s a rav 4, a new one too. year 2002. why do i have such bad luck with cars??) somehow while he’s carrying the seats into the house he breaks one. how you ask? i do not know. all i know is that the metal track set up on the bottom of the one seat now looks waaaay different than the other seat and it won’t go back into the car. here’s where jon and i can be as different as night and day. i’m thinking no problem. i’ll take it to the toyota dealership smile really nice to the little toyota man and he’ll fix it for a small fee or maybe even nothing at all. this is how jon reacts: “maybe we should cancel the trip. this is going to cost a fortune. expletive expletive. all the expletives @#*%&”. later i hear banging and find my boy whaling away at it with a hammer before he takes the pliers to it. i beg him to stop because if he smashes it to smithereens i’m sure the nice little toyota man will notice and now they won’t cover it under the warranty. you’d think by jon’s reaction that this one little thing will send us into financial ruin and now we can never go on vacation or have kids. well i’m here to tell ya we’ll be spending more $$ we don’t have 1st thing in the morning at IKEA baby!! i think i’ll drive tonight, no need for road rage from the husband. =) -
the friday five
1. What is your favorite restaurant and why? i have a favorite for each type of food. seafood: casco bay. chinese: house of tai pei. mexican: zapatas italian: guytanos i’m not a fan of chain restaraunts like olive garden, tgifriday’s & applebee’s. i’d much rather give my money to hard working local people than a corporation who happens to own restaraunts. plus i just think the food’s better when it’s not shipped from some centralized warehouse. now on occasion i will frequent a chain (see answer to #2) and we do like qdoba but it’s mostly for fast food. i try very hard to avoid the chains for dinner though.
2. What fast food restaurant are you partial to? jack in the box they’re just the best. i mean how can you beat a place that sells poppers & such good burgers?
3. What are your standards and rules for tipping? 20% unless horrible service. i respect wait staff like crazy. i know i could never do that job with my accident prone self!
4. Do you usually order an appetizer and/or dessert? appetizers….sometimes but desserts…not so much, unless it’s a special occasion.
5. What do you usually order to drink at a restaurant? sweet tea and sometimes a fun cocktail.

finger pricks & cat scans
yesterday i couldn’t eat or drink anything other than water until my blood test. they checked my glucose level (which was normal) with a finger prick then she squeezed the blood into this machine to measure my blood sugar. i’m telling ya that finger prick hurt worse than when they took 2 vials of blood a couple weeks ago. the nurse agreed that it’s more painful than a regular needle. that bad boy jams up into your finger like nobody’s business. i was bleeding like crazy. so the good news is i’m at a normal sugar level so i’m not diabetic. jon and i were almost disappointed in the news because this means we still don’t know what’s wrong with me and if i were diabetic we could at least treat that.
so after bloodwork we went to lunch at the roasting company. very good stuff. then headed over to the hospital for my cat scan. that machine was HUGE! it was all clicks and spinning and moving me around. but it only took like 10 minutes. we’ll know something in a week or so. -
doctor doctor
wednesday is the big medical day. blood work and a cat scan to see what’s going on in my little head. keep your fingers crossed.
comments will hopefully return tomorrow once i can get back to work and retrieve my code. -
time for a change
got bored with the old template, in the process of changing so this may look funky for a while. -
cool craft sighting
i could totally do this. in fact, jenny has inspired me to make these awesome painted lights. i can give them as gifts. they sell these at target in the form of nightlights for ridiculous amounts of $$. in fact there’s a whole website that sells these called party bulbs. they go for $11.95 each!
