Wow, you’d think a Tuesday would be just another regular day right? No. First of all I forgot to show you the cutest tea pot that Lisa sent me for my birthday. It arrived on Saturday and I just love the way it looks in my lime green kitchen! Y’all know by now to click on all photos to enlarge. On the Flickr page you can click “All Sizes” to see the really big ones.
OK so most of today was normal except CSP had to work 3rd shift tonight so his sleep schedule (and therefore mine) is all screwy. I spent a good part of the day painting on Monday. I’m forcing myself to finish painting all the neutral color downstairs before starting on the fun lilac 1/2 bath and raspberry dining room.
So Jon headed off to work then about 11:30pm my phone rang. Candice’s husband Devin was driving to work when some punk rear ended him while he was slowing down to turn. It totaled his car. I went next door while C went to pick up D and take him to the hospital. He’s alright, just sore. Thank goodness.
I got home around 2:30am Tuesday and opened the back door to let the pugs out. Some crazy flying creature came screeching into my house over my head. I didn’t see what it was. The pugs did their business then we came back inside. I could hear the creature making odd noises but couldn’t see it. It had gone up to the top of my kitchen cabinet and since we have crown molding on them it forms a lip that I can’t see over. I went to bed with one eye open, hoping I wouldn’t get pecked or stung to death in my sleep.
Jon came home around 9am and saw the creature on the kitchen counter. It was a cicada. Whew. Those don’t kill you.
I woke up and found the little guy stuck in the drain of the kitchen sink. I held him with my right hand and tried to take a couple pics with my left.
Here’s his underbelly:
This one you can see his wings:
He was still alive (thankfully) so I took him outside to release him. I put him on the ground where he just spun on his head. So I picked him back up and put him on a fence post. He flew away home I’m thinking. No idea why I’ve been targeted by insects & reptiles over the last few days (grasshopper, praying mantis, snake, frog in my mom’s pool filter that climbs all over me when we swim there, and now this guy), but I’m glad I can help.
So then Jon woke up from sleeping in the closet (it’s darker and cooler) and came downstairs. A thunderstorm was brewing so we went out and watched it from the back porch. I took some cute photos of Miss Molly and you can really see her bald spots in a couple.
Molly snuck some of her Dad’s beer:
Kiki was too scared of the thunder to come out. I love the look on Molly’s face in this one, she’s like Mom! Stop. Taking. Pictures!
Looks like Molly’s a light weight.
On an unrelated note I’ve been organizing and backing up my photos. I’m approaching 7000 on my Mac so we bought an external hard drive and that’s working fabulously. I’m also in the process of saving them all to discs and putting the discs in a cd holder organized by date. This is a long and boring process. But our last computer died and took all my photos to the grave. Damn you G@teway! The only ones I still have are the ones I uploaded to sites like Snapfish etc. This was before I was a Flickr girl. Candice wanted to see pics of the house we sold last year so I put them in a set on Flickr. If you’re interested you can go here
to see them. C’s interested in going to IKEA for her first time so I tagged all the IKEA stuff I could see in the pics. It’s a lot. Who knew?

It’s been a little while since I’ve had any new pics of my girls on here so I thought I’d post a couple. Here’s Miss Molly:
You can see on her chest where her hair is thinning. She has Pug Pattern Baldness. My vet said some dogs just go bald. Of course it would happen to one of mine. She hardly has any hair on her underside now. Pretty soon we’re gonna have to lotion her up and use sunscreen! On. My. Dog.
Miss Kiki’s getting kind of honery in her old age (3). She’s starting to hoard toys.
And just tonight when Molly was minding her own bidness chewing on some rawhide while Kiki was napping, Kiki woke up, went over to Molly, took Molly’s rawhide, layed it down on the other end of the sofa, then climbed back up on her cushion and went back to sleep! Molly must have been chewing too loudly I guess! So testy! In other critter news we found a praying mantis (I think) on our garage door the other night.
Between the crickets, grasshoppers, spiders, and now these guys I’m gonna start having creepy beastie nightmares! -
Scene: the other night we’re in bed about to go to sleep. I was laying (lying?) on my back reaching for my CPAP mask. I pulled on the tube until I met resistance and realized my mask was stuck between the bed and the wall. I twisted around and jammed my arm down in the crack to reach my mask but ended up getting my arm stuck.
Honey, I need your help. My mask is stuck and I can’t get it and now my arm’s all stuck and Kiki’s on me and I’m all twisted and can you help me?
Just pretend I wasn’t here.
What?? But you are here! And I need you to help me!
But what if I weren’t here? Then what would you do?
And then that punk husband of mine turned off the tv and rolled over! I finally got my arm out, not without a bit of scraping from the textured wall, and I had to turn on the overhead light and dig around before I found my mask. But I found it. He noticed.
Now, don’t you feel good about yourself?

(click to enlarge) Well, I’m glad to see that IKEA is socially responsible. I’d have felt bad if they had gotten an F after I went and pimped them out on my blog. You can go here and see how your favorite stores and products shake out. Got this from Janet, who’s just moved to a very socially responsible town in CA. I’m not surprised to see W@l-mart way down at the bottom of the heap. Although I feel bad cause CSP & I just went shopping at S@m’s last night. We also went to Lowe’s and picked up some crown molding for the family room (yay!!!). Then to Bruster’s for my free birthday ice cream. Finally at home we had dinner, Jon grilled burgers and tilapia(odd combo, no??) and we watched Hot Fuzz. I love British comedy and we laughed sooo hard. Course with the laughing and the accents sometimes we’d have to rewind to catch some of what they had to say.
In other news, I finally learned how to upload a photo for my blog header. Duh. Also watched Little Children the other night. Read the book a while back and while I liked it, I hated how it ended. The movie was no better.
Currently reading: Saving Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan.
Current home improvement project for me: finish painting downstairs. Pics to follow upon completion.
Seems I’m caught up in the summer duldrums (sp?) right now. It’s just too blinking hot for anything. Come on Fall! -
The new IKEA catalog is out. Must wipe all the drool off my computer screen.

Yesterday was a busy one. In the morning I went next door and facepainted at Maggie’s 3rd birthday party.

After the party I went home and ironed Jon’s clothes for work. Then my Mom called and asked did I want to come over for a swim & cook out. She asked if I could stop and pick up some dry ice on the way. Wha?? She said she wanted to cool down her pool and thought dry ice would do it. So I stopped by the grocery store and picked up a couple bags. It costs 99 cents a pound so she told me just to get 2 bags although I read online it would take around 60 pounds to cool the average pool. We dropped the ice in and watched as it bubbled and smoked.
It was pretty cool looking but it did very little to cool down the pool.
