Bless Your Heart is years old today! Yay!
To celebrate I’m giving away 8 free pairs of earrings to lucky readers! If you’d like to win a pair, leave a comment with your name, email, blog address (if applicable), favorite color, and an example of when you thought, or said “Bless Your Heart” to or about someone. For those who aren’t that familiar with the phrase or its usage, we in the South like to bless people’s hearts. Sometimes it’s out of sympathy, compassion, or tenderness: “Bless your heart, you just can’t catch a break!” or “Bless your heart, you baked me a pie!” Sometimes it’s something you say (silently) to yourself: “Bless her heart, she thinks that dress looks good on her.”
Comments will be open through Sunday evening, August 23.
I think I last said bless your heart to you, but as a home health therapist, I say it a LOT. I won earrings last time so if you pick me, please draw again. Spread the love, you know…Happy Anniversary! Best Bless Your Heart memory is when I was doing a continuing education course in Downer’s Grove, IL. The girl behind me had a bad cough, and I turned around to her and said those special words. The room erupted in laughter. Not sure if it was what I said, my accent, or what, but there was much laughter. I’m wasn’t old, either. Maybe they thought that was something old ladies say. What sort of people don’t bless each others’ hearts????

I last said bless your heart yesterday. A friend was talking about her daughter that was in her own little world and often says the most random things. She and I both blessed her heart. Lately, I have had long conversations about the phrase. Some people just don’t know when to say it or how to say it.

I said it to my coworker on the way home from our faculty meeting. We were talking about a colleague who’s just a little too moist, and I said “Bless his heart, he sweats like a pig!”

I haven’t ever used that phrase but I am going to try it SOON! I want to use it like you said “bless her heart she thinks she looks good in that dress”. I am really excited about my new endeavor…it has to be genuine so I’m searching for an opportunity. My favorite color is black (I know I know it’s not a color)but it’s still my fav.

IF my name was drawn I wouldn’t want black earrings. I would want blue or something cool. I didn’t even catch why you were asking everyone’s fav color.

I have to be perfectly honest and tell you I have never used that phrase before. (Gasp!) But I’m a California girl and I have never heard it said by anyone I know. Maybe I will make it my goal to try and use it more often!
I think you already know all of this but here’s my e-mail

Oooo, please enter me. I don’t wear earrings, but my mom does and I owe her BIG for coming with us to SF yesterday and spending all day helping to herd the girls. Oh, and I’ve never said “bless your heart” but I can guarantee that the exact phrase “bless her heart she thinks she looks good in that dress” has been applied to ME many times. Heh.

Well Bless your heart for thinking of others 🙂
I very rarely say it– but I certainly think it. Before school started, my daughter and I went shopping. She had no clue how to pick out clothes that “go together”. I thought, awww– bless her little heart, she’s trying so hard, but she has no clue how to dress in regular clothes (she wore a uniform up until now).
I love your jewelry girlfriend, but I can’t wear earrings (allergies). Sooo — just wanted to share one of my moments of “Bless your Heart”

Happy Blogiversary!
Not sure I’ve ever said “Bless your heart”, even when I lived in NC. I think I’ve thought it though…that counts, right?
I’ve been following you on FB and just wanted to say thanks for posting your experience and hang in there. Tell the girls to behave and I hope you’re all better soon 🙂
my ears aren’t pierced, so unless you have clip earrings, I guess I’m out 😦
Have a great day!

Happy Bloggievserary!
I say it a lot since moving to the South. I can’t remember exactly the last time I said it…Its just something you say a lot here. Like “Well….Bless his heart, he’s so annoying but he means well.” It’s the perfect way to insult someone and then make it not seem like an insult by prefacing it with “Bless his/her heart”. LOL!

Yay for bloggaversaries! 8 is big my friend BIG!
You know I wear your earrings more than any others that I have? And Caitlin is FOREVER borrowing them.
The last time I said “BYH” was last sunday night when I noticed that the little old lady in front of us in church had her wig on backward. The long curls were hanging in her face and she kept smoothing them over to one side. My mom and I got the giggles and she laughed even harder when I said “awwww bless her heart” What else can you say in a situation like that?

I don’t think I have ever said it. I didn’t even hear of it until I started reading your site! It’s not something that is commonly used up in the pacific northwest. Although we do say ‘he means well but…’ then we stick in something it isn’t very nice. lol
I would love a pair of your pretty earings, maybe silver/white so I can wear them all the time? 🙂

Congrats on 8 years. Wow, I didn’t even realize blogging had been around that long, bless my heart. haha! We say it all the time here in SC. I think the last time I said it was when I was watching the news the other night and they were talking about this 88yr old woman who drove her car through the front window of the post office. Nobody was hurt thank goodness, but they were talking about how embarassed she was. I know I said it when I was reading about your “lady hump” issues too. Hang in there!

I have several of your earrings, bought them in 2006? Still wearing them. Would love another pair… really need something in red. Where have you been…. nothing on Etsy!
Bless your heart is such a nice phrase, but being from “way up north” I don’t think I have ever said it either. Even though I have lived in the south for more than half my life, I guess I don’t hang out with anyone who says that (maybe that’s a bad thing!).

I know, I know, I’ve been slack about posting jewelry on etsy. With all the health problems I’ve had lately I’ve just not been inspired to make anything new. I’m hoping this giveaway will kick me back into gear! 🙂
