When in Rome

We won’t be going to Disney while in Orlando next week.  Gasp!  I know.  But it’s so pricey.  I don’t really mind.  It’s just my mom & me for the most part.  Papa will be able to join us a little bit.  SO, what are some things we should go do while in Orlando outside of a theme park?  We may have access to the rental car, but we might have to walk or rely on the hotel shuttle some too.  Load me up with ideas people!

  1. Go to Disney!!!! Take a time share presentation that offers park tickets for free!

I would also go to Downtown Disney and City Walk (over near Universal)

    They also have great outlets!

    Atleast go ride the monorail!

  2. hmm Id definatly go resort hopping at disney. ride the monorail over to the polynesian resort and get a pineapple dole whip float and watch the fireworks from the beach.

Check out the shops at Downtown Disney. Old Town on Irlo Bronson is kind of fun to look around at. (its like a little fair thingee) We like the outlet mall for “REAL” shopping. They have a SUPER target that is fun for us since we dont have one here.

  3. go to downtown disney for sure! and once there you can get on a disney bus and go visit one of the hotels and then take the bus back to DTD. i suggest going to see any/all of the deluxe ones. they are they bomb! and if you go to the Polynesian or The Grand Floridian you can ride the monorail – all the way to Epcot if you want! if you want more insight just email me. also i can suggest restaurants that are ‘in Disney’ but not in the parks (meaning you could go eat there without park admission).

  4. Hmmm… I’ve never thought of such a thing. Though I understand Emeril (and possibly other celeb chefs) has restaurants there if you’re into that sort of thing. Which I am … I love a good fancy meal on vacation!!

  5. I haven’t been to Orlando since 1988, so I have no clue. I only remember going to the theme parks when we were there. The rest of the time was spent at Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, and the space center. I would love to hear what other things there are to do in Orlando, though, besides visiting the land of the Mouse.

  6. I would recommend The Holy Land Experience as well as SeaWorld. Also neat is Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure, though it is probably pricey like Disney. Oh, and they have a good mall in Orlando…I think it’s called milenia??

Or, you could find the IKEA! : )

  7. Sorry sweetie, I have never been to Orlando so I wouldn’t have a clue what to suggest. I did read about this La Nouba – Cirque du Soleil show at a Downtown Disney theater.

  8. SHANNON!!!! Did you hear about Ikea? Charlotte, baby!!!! Opening Spring 2009!! I can’t wait & I know you are gonna be THRILLED! SO excited! ~Carla~

  9. True, Disney is very pricey. Unfortunately, I have never done anything outside of Disney in Orlando, so I am not help. But I see you have a countdown clock for a Disney cruise on your blog. Have you done one before? We loved ours!

  10. Shannon…
We were just in Orlando for Spring Break. So, if I did not answer your sweet email to me.. that is why! BUT, we went to Sea World and although it was fun we missed going to Disney. We usually go every summer for about a week with our girls. We did go ride the monorail and we ate lunch at the Earl of Sandwich and the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney. Do something fun!
