Bless Your Heart

Saturday I stopped by the Dollar Store to pick up some nerds on a rope for my Mom. You see, I had to make up a little for an incident. On Thursday when I was at her house giving Morgan a facial I left a bottle of glue there. I had thought glue might would make a good peel off mask. Bad idea. Heh. Anyway, Mom & Papa babysat my nephews Friday night and Joey found the glue. He emptied it into my Mom’s big cactus and all over the carpet. So nerds on a rope had to be bought.
Anyway, I was in the check out line behind a man. There was a girl hanging out by the register talking to the cashier. Turns out the girl worked there too, but they don’t wear uniforms so I couldn’t tell at first. The girl was at least 28-30 and had bleached blonde hair with black tips. Not blonde hair from highlights or professional color or even Clairol #42b. But BLEACH. White about to turn orangey yellow bleach. You know, that county fair look. Her hair came to her shoulders and the bottom 3 inches was dyed pitch black. Nice. Cashier was about 18, wearing a high school ring. Blondie was telling her she needed to let Blondie bleach her hair and give Cashier the same classy look Blondie was sporting. I was horrified at the conversation I heard.

B: Come on you should let me dye your hair.
C: I don’t know, I’ve never dyed my hair before.
B: Girl, blonde hair & black tips is hot. HOT! Just today I got whistled at and waved at and honked at when we were cruising in the Jeep. And you know it’s cause of this hair.
C: Wow.
B: Yeah, it’s sexy. Now I gotta go unload those stupid boxes.

Customer guy in front of me was as shocked and appalled looking as I was. He took his receipt and got out of there and it was all I could do during my transaction not to shake poor Cashier and tell her to run, don’t walk, away from Blondie and her ill conceived beauty advice. But who was I to advise her, standing there in my 7 week old highlights and poorly blown out hairstyle. Hey, you try styling your hair with one arm!
