I face paint at festivals and parties on occasion. Sometimes I need an assistant. So the other day (could have been a couple weeks ago by now) I was over at my sister Sara’s house. She volunteered to help me face paint at an upcoming event but she wanted to practice first. Luckily she has 2 children we can paint. Someone had a fabulous idea of painting eyes on Jacob’s eyelids.
Then we did the same thing to Gigi.
It was incredibly creepy!! Like they were watching us with their technicolor eyes!

Last weekend was girls’ weekend in Valle Crucis. One of the very girly things we did was give ourselves manicures. Christina bought the Red Carpet Manicure system from Ulta. I bought 2 new colors to try. Gigi went with a deep purple. Christina and I both went with …And the Winner Is, which is a sparkly teal (not sure why it doesn’t look very teal in the picture). The Red Carpet Manicure is supposed to be very similar to the new gel manicures you can get in a salon, like Shellac. I totally forgot to take a picture of my nails on day 1. Or 2- 3 for that matter. But here I have for you day 4.
My nails are still super shiny. There is no discernible wear on the tips of my nails. Please keep in mind I painted my own nails after a few cocktails that include the wickedly delicious whipped cream vodka. That stuff is NOT YOUR FRIEND. Sure, it smells delish. It tastes fab. But then you wake up the next day with a furry tongue and nail polish all up in your cuticles yo. Anyway, so far I’m really loving this manicure. My nails feel thick and strong. Besides cuticle oil there’s no upkeep. They just stay shiny and sparkly! This manicure is supposed to last around 2 weeks. Stay tuned for updates! -

Home stretch! We have had all of our home visits and inspections from the fire department, social worker, etc. We have filled out all of our forms. We have taken all of our classed. We are CPR certified. Right now we are waiting for the state of NC to approve our foster parent fingerprints. Once those are approved then we have to have our fingerprints taken again. These will be our adoptive parent fingerprints. I think it is pretty dang silly that we have to submit 2 separate sets of fingerprints at 2 different times. I promise we don’t file our prints off. So now we are at the browsing stage. We can browse for kidlets online. It’s so odd to us. You can browse the children too. www.heartgalleryofamerica.org or www.adoptuskids.org Warning. It will break your heart. We want to adopt them all. It’s so amazing to us that FINALLY we can just about see the finish line!

I submitted my first Thirty-One party to the home office. It was my launch party that I hosted on Saturday. I made tons of fabulous food and set up all my Thirty-One products. I was nervous but everything went really well! In just one party I earned back the $99 I spent on my new consultant kit and then some!
I’m so excited! What a great job- I get to party with my friends AND make money! WOot!!! -

I am now officially an independent consultant for Thirty-One gifts!
Yay! I’m so excited! My official launch party is next Saturday, September 10. If you are local to Charlotte (and I know you) and you’d like an invite, just leave a comment and let me know! If you are not local but you’d like to check out what Thirty-One is all about and place an order, just go to my website! The new Fall line is so fabulous!
There’s so much more to see! -
Last week CSP & I spent Monday through Friday in Valle Crucis, NC with the pugs. We love being able to go up to the mountains and haven’t been able to for a while. Time seems to go a little slower up there with no internet, dvr, etc and we just love it. We didn’t do much, just read, I knit, we watched movies and checked out all our favorite little places. The pugs love it up there too. Kiki likes being able to go off leash. Molly & Zoe aren’t quite mature enough for that but I think they still like the mountain air.

One of the fun places we always visit is the Mountain House restaurant. We’ve been going to Mountain House since it was a tiny little joint at the end of a strip mall. Then 8 years ago it moved to a primo location on Blowing Rock Highway. This trip we noticed “We’re Moving” signs. I asked our waiter about it and got the scoop. Apparently the owner, Betty’s, lease is up. Cracker Barrel found out and swooped in. Betty kept offering more money but CB offered more time. Cracker Barrel signed a 30 year lease. Ugh. Talk about big business squishing the little guy! I shall boycott Cracker Barrel! Now Mountain House is moving to a smaller location off 421 where there is no good parking. Boo! We’ll still go there of course, and we’ll shoot rotten looks at CB on the way!
