sports night
last night was major sports night here. husband was flipping furiously between the red wing’s game vs. the carolina hurricanes and the braves vs. the twins. he’s from minnesota so he was rooting for the twins & the red wings who both won. i went to bed around 10:30 only to be woken up at almost 2 am (!!!!!!) to be given a very excited recap of both games. thanks, honey. gosh, i’m suprised i could sleep at all without knowing the outcome. =)

flora

our home was landscaped 2 years ago by the previous homeowner. spring and summer has brought all sorts of blooms where we didn’t even know we had flowers. every day it seems i walk outside and there’s something new blooming. i’m so psyched that what was a bunch of dead looking sticks when we bought the house is now a hydrangea bush. and where we thought was just weeds we have these pretty lilies that close up at night and re-open during the day. i heard that if you pour tomato or orange juice on a hydrangea that it will bloom all sorts of different colors. hmmm. i wonder if that’s true or if someone’s trying to fool me. -
jipped!
last night husband and i watched curse of the jade scorpion. it was cute with good dialogue like most woody allen movies. then, with just 15-20 minutes to go…the dvd freaks out! all sorts of weird colors across the screen & it got all pixalated looking (if that’s a word). then it started over from the beginning! our machine’s ok, the disc was just all mucked up. it was due at noon today though so i had to drop it on the way to work. i’ll see if they’ll spot me another one later. i need to find out what happened! -
superstar
saturday i worked some overtime til 4 then hit the mall to run some errands. while looking for husband’s hair gel i found this awesome stuff. beauty product alert! it’s called superstar by tigi bed head. it is supposed to make your hair all thick and big but keep it soft and it does! it smells good too. i needed something to help jack up my baby fine hair for my sister’s wedding. it came with a free can of hair gel too so it was a deal. meanwhile the saleslady’s telling me how her husband ran off with some austrian chick he found online. people tell me all their business, i don’t know what it is! i had to back out of the store while she kept going on and on.
i
went home and watched ghost world. i love thora birch & steve buscemi but i don’t know- i just wasn’t feeling it with this movie. it was good but i was just so tired of it by the time it was over. i couldn’t believe i gave up trading spaces to watch it. i flipped on tlc after the movie and what was coming on? a wedding story with reva and josh from guiding light. i couldn’t believe it! i was so confused. i thought maybe the actors that play reva & josh fell in love in real life or something. i used to watch guiding light back in the day. those people just never leave soaps do they? i mean, it’s been a good 5-7 years since i’ve caught an episode and i’d say a good 60% of the actors are the same. so it turns out that they did this whole wedding story show on 2 soap characters! not real people. are they desperate for material? it was weird. but funny in a campy sort of way. -
coconutty

i smell so sweet i’m afraid to go outside for fear of being attacked by bees. jenny had mentioned coconut cream lotion by bath & body works on her blog the other day. i was so psyched because i’ve been on a coconut kick ever since finding my coconut bay yankee candle . so i hit the mall saturday and stocked up. they had buy 3 get 1 free (which used to be buy 2 get 1 free. rip) so i bought the spray, lotion, shower scrub, hand cream, & this sparkly shimmery stuff. all coconut cream. i smell just like my coconut tree car air freshener. i’m not sure if that’s a good thing. =) i’m determined to use it all though. the bugs are going to be all over me this summer! -
cone head
look at my poor, sweet nelson. this is the latest cone collar he’s been sporting. it’s really helped to keep him from chewing his tail. no, he can’t
pick up hbo with that thing!

my yard

click on this link to see a bigger pic:back yard. i took this through the window of our dining room- mainly to capture on film the pair of doves that live in our yard. they are sitting on the next to the top step. they’re very sweet with each other and like to romp in the pond. you can see the water wheel in the upper left corner and a little of the creek running under it. and see that brick planter in the upper right corner? to the right of it is the brick patio with a fire pit! we can’t wait to roast things over it this summer. the pond is just out of range but it would be in the lower left corner next to the deck you can’t see. visualize! -
doggles??
megan @ not martha has a link to the funniest thing i’ve seen in a while….doggles. yep, goggles for dogs. they have a scrapbook on their site with pics sent in by customers. it’s so cute! i’ve always wondered why dogs love to stick their heads out the car window, but hate it when you blow in their face. i’d love to see nelson in a pair of those! -
the night the lights went out in charlotte
last night i went to rafferty’s for dinner. which was ok- they had a pretty limited menu. and their salad selection was lacking. i went with kim & rose & rose’s 1 year old baby charlie. soo cute and such a good baby. i used to work with kim and rose when i worked for hannaford. now kim and i both work for the same company. it’s nice to get together with them because they’re on the same page as me when it comes to where we all are with our lives. (see rant from the other day) while we were there a huge thunderstorm hit. the south is famous for it’s thunderstorms. big, scary, but gone in no time. it lasted about an hour and the power even went out for about 10 minutes. that was weird. i don’t think i’ve ever been in a restaurant before during a power outage. i’ve been in a grocery store during a power outage, and that’s not too bad- they have lots of emergency lighting. but it got pretty dark in this restaurant. you know how restaurants are all about cozy nooks & crannies anyway. they only had a couple of back up lights. charlie didn’t freak out at all which was good. everyone clapped when the power came back on. i’d be interested to know the most interesting place you’ve ever been when the power went out….
