back in the cone
nelson’s back in the cone again. he has this scrape on his arm that he keeps messing with, so friday we had to get a new collar for him to wear again. this one has a “pleather” comfort neck. swanky.

blogger meet up
i went to lunch today with natalie ! yep, we finally met in person. in case you don’t know natalie let me tell you where she came from. i’ve been reading jenny’s blog for a while. she works for kodak where natalie used to work. jenny had natalie’s blog linked on hers. so one day i went to read natalie’s and she happened to mention that she was moving to charlotte from washington dc! so i had to send her an email to tell her how much she’d love charlotte. we started emailing, she moved here and now it turns out she’s now working in a building in my office park. it was fun to finally meet up in person. we’ll definitely have to get together again soon.
seems lots of bloggers are meeting up. kate met a fellow nj blogger at ikea the other day. and in just over a week i’ll be meeting rachel when we go to baltimore on vacation. it’s kinda weird though to know what to do when you meet. you feel like you already know the person, so is a big ol bear hug in order? of course you don’t want to scare anyone. is there some sort of etiquette on this?? -
new feature!

****warning! following story and related pictures are NOT for the squeamish***
…and i wasn’t even drunk
is what husband said after an unfortunate accident the other night. he was trying to fix the sash of our window. little background: old house, double hung windows, top sash in office hanging down a little. so he was pushing it up while i’m at the computer just a few feet away. i hear this huge crash and look back to see him pull his hand back through the window and pull a huge shard of glass from his left wrist. he apparently was pushing more on the window than the sash and since we have old windows it didn’t take much to push right through. so we run to the bathroom and pick the rest of the glass out of his hand and arm. there’s blood all over the place. i do the superman quick change (i was already in my nightgown as it was 11pm) and i’m all ready to get him to the hospital. he won’t go. ay yi yi. so he’s running cold water over the cuts and there’s this big puncture wound about a third of the way down his arm and i swear to you he needed stitches. we get the bleeding to slow down and bandage him up. we clean up the rest of the glass and at this point since i can tell he’s not going to pass out from loss of blood or anything, i grab the camera. i had called my mom all panicky for a 2nd opinion on the trip to the emergency room and she said we should be ok as long as he goes to the dr the next day. never happened. i tell ya, he’d have to get shot or lose a limb before he’ll willingly go to the dr. so he taped up a classy garbage bag over the window and we went to bed. he’s still a little sore, i still think he needs stitches, and it’s still bleeding a bit, but i’m sure he’ll be fine. i told him it’s going to scar all ugly like without stitches and he says “well, it will be a reminder not to put my hand through the window!” yeah, cause you need a reminder for that sort of thing! and now the visuals… pulling the rest of the glass out of the window:

and here i thought i had good taste in music
i own 10 of the albums on the list of the top 100 albums you should remove from your collection immediately. and i used to own 3 or 4 others before selling them back to those cd stores that buy used cds. i guess being 10% uncool isn’t all bad. -

the new season of sex and the city has started! i know i’m late, but i don’t have hbo. luckily the other shannon at work gets hbo and she tapes it for me. woohoo! i’m really digging sara jessica parker’s short hair. this show is my weekly girly escape. -
kitty got busted
this is kenichi the amazing japanese fighting fish. he was swimming along minding his own bidness in his bowl on the mantle the other night when bad girl dabrie
decided as soon as mommy and daddy left the room that she’d like a little snack. if you look closely at the picture (click here for a larger version) you’ll notice there is saran wrap over his bowl. kenichi, it seems, is hell bent on ending his life so i have to cover him with saran wrap for his own protection or i might find him flopping around on the floor again. if you look even more closely at the pic you’ll notice the saran wrap is a bit shredded. i found dabrie on the mantle with kenichi’s bowl pushed to the edge and her paw digging for my poor fish down in the water. there’s water sprayed all over the mirror as evidence of her crime. kenichi now lives on top of the armoire in the bedroom. -
friday night
i collected morgan & nelson and we went to my other sister’s (sara) house for dinner and a movie. husband was working until midnight yet again. =( we watched some america’s funniest videos first while we had dinner then sat down to watch i am sam. let me just say that i’ve never been a huge sean penn fan. he’s a great actor, i’ve just never been over the moon about him. he did an amazing job as sam. totally believable. it’s a good thing i never saw this movie in the theater as i was a blubbering fool crying buckets. it was so sad because you know they want you to want the daughter back with him, but part of you knows she might be better off if she lived with a family of “normal” capabilities. too bad a family couldn’t adopt both of them.
saturday
husband and i went to lunch at monterrey mexican restaurant, then we went on a mini shopping spree at best buy . i got amelie on dvd, the amelie soundtrack, and norah jones. so excited! both cd’s are so good. perfect for making dinner to. which i did later on when sara and morgan came over to watch amelie. morgan is so cute- she said to me about the dinner i made “shanny, this is so good! you should cook for hotels!” well, i had just made some chicken with rice & tomatoes, nothing special- but it was tasty=). sara says “yeah, a hotel really needs some new minute rice dishes!”
sunday
we were so productive i can hardly stand it! got up and cleaned the house while husband took care of the yard. then we headed out to run some errands. the biggest thing was we bought a new washer & dryer at sears . i am sooo excited! laundry has been a nightmare at my house since we moved. the washer got all mucked up and the balancer is off so i literally have to sit on it during each spin cycle. and our plumbing is old and a wreck so i have to manually drain the washer for each load or the water goes all over the floor. the plumber is coming thursday so this weekend i’ll be all set. i can’t believe i’m excited about laundry.
