Movin on Up
Well, this is my last time on the internet for a while. I have to pack up the computer tonight and return the cable modem to the cable company tomorrow. They don’t have the same cable company where we’re moving so we’ve got to get all re-set up. We’re just about finished with packing. I only have the office and bedroom left to go, and both of those are half finished. I’m a little sad about leaving our cute little house. But we’re so psyched about the new one. Hopefully all the kinks will be worked out tomorrow and we can close Tuesday. Better late than never! I thought I’d re-run the link to the pics of our house we’re leaving just in case you’d like to see. Click here. By the way, our neighbors are thrilled with how much we sold this house for ($12k more than we paid for it- although we don’t get any of that with realtor’s fees etc.) because it increased their property values. And now the neighbors to our left are moving too! So we are supposed to close on the new house Tues, the old house Wed then we’re hitting the road for Ikea and to see Rachel & Brian!

Frenzy
packing…more packing…problems with the mortgage underwriting is pushing back our closing on the new house. gah!…
Thursday night I went out for my traditional birthday dinner with Sara, Amy, & Michelle. It was really fun as usual. We ate Chinese and got free margaritas all around. We chatted and laughed and had ice cream afterwards from Maggie Moos. Good times. Sara told a story I hadn’t thought of in a while and it is sooo funny, esp the visual that I’ll be sure to tell you guys all about it when I have more time.
I came home to a fabulous birthday package from Mrs. R. Thank you so much! A lovely Thank You package is on it’s way to you right now. Keep an eye out!
Yesterday was the exact opposite of good times. I found out that because of a last minute stipulation that our new house closing will be delayed. We’re still up in the air and we have to move out Tuesday new house or not because we sold our house!
I went to the new house for a waterproofing inspection and found that not all the necessary repairs have been made to the house even though they said they had. It could cost more than $2000 to fix what needs to be fixed and if it’s not fixed it could lead to a shifting then crumbling foundation. Not a small thing to leave unrepaired. I’m so stressed. That wouldn’t be a huge deal if my realtor, who I’ve raved about in the past, would act as if he’s actually on our side with all this. He keeps saying things like “I don’t see what the big deal is, it’s just the crawl space.” and “The sellers are not going to be happy with this and they could take you to court” Not true by the way and if they do then bring it on baby, my FIL is a judge. and “If this was a concern of yours then you really should have been all over it from day one.” Funny, we have been. We got the inspection report and had the follow up inspection within a week. And HELLO! Who in their right mind would buy a house or encourage someone to buy a house with unresolved foundation problems!? All the hardwood floors and crown moldings in the world don’t matter if your home, your largest investment, is crumbling underneath you. Mr. Realtor keeps up this jackass attitude and I’ll start revealing his name and website for all of the internet to see.
I had a giant peach margarita last night because of this whole situation. I may have to start a margarita I.V. if this doesn’t get any better! -
5 Questions
Lisanne came up with 5 very interesting questions so I could take part in the 5 Question interview game.1] You’ve just won a contest. The prize? Your own personal chef will come to your home tomorrow night and fix you *anything* you want for dinner, free of charge. What will you choose, and why? This is tough. I’d want something I wouldn’t be able to make myself, and I’d like lots of my favorites. I’d like it to be a sampler, with a little of each of the following. I’d like some really good bread, the tomato and mozzerella salad from Guytanos, Chicken Bryan from Carrabas, some grilled shrimp for an appetizer done Hibachi style, barbque from Shealy’s, and grilled veggies, and also the mushrooms from the Palm. For dessert I’d like a sampler with homemade baklava, creme brulee, grilled bananas and cheesecake.
2] A very close friend of yours has been extremely down, depressed, sad, etc. lately. What, if anything, would you do to try to cheer her up/help her? I’d take her out to a funny movie, a day at the spa, then we’ll go for dinner and a long talk where we’ll laugh and I’ll listen. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone when you’re down, so I’ll be the best listener I can.
3] Which state would you most like to visit? [Pick one that you haven’t been to before.] Why, and what would you do there? This is a good one. My goal is to visit every state before I die, but if I had to pick just one…I think Alaska. Everyone I know that’s been says that you just have to see it for yourself. That it’s just so beautiful. Plus, I like the cold and cruises so I’m thinking an Alaskan cruise would be great.
4] What are five goals that you have for the near future [within the next five years, let’s say]? 1.Have children (naturally if possible). 2. Learn French and visit Paris. 3. Have a substantial amount in savings/investments. 4. Lose weight. 5. Launch a successful venture (the one I can’t quite tell you about yet. Patience.)
5] What’s the biggest surprise that you’ve ever received? What was it, and when did it occur? I’m not sure how to answer this. Gift? Event? I’ll go with Event. When Jon proposed I was so surprised that it didn’t quite sink in at first and then when it did I almost hyperventilated and I literally fell to the floor. That was August 28, 1999.
Thanks Lisanne! Now, the way the game works is that if you’d like me to interview you, leave a comment with “Interview Me” in it and I’ll send you 5 different questions for you to answer!

Voice From Beyond
Saturday night we got home late and Jon crashed right away. The house was quiet. I was brushing my teeth and washing my face, you know, the typical before bed routine. That’s when I heard it. A man’s muffled voice sounding like he was talking through a walkie talkie. At first I thought it was a police officer on a p.a. patrolling the streets or something. Then about 10 minutes later I heard it again. Then I knew we were being ambushed by organized killers with a fondness for mobile communication. I nudged Jon “Honey- there’s a man breaking into the house. And he has a walkie talkie!”. Jon just shushed me and rolled over. I barely got any sleep because I just knew the moment I closed my eyes was when they’d make their move. Every 10 minutes or so I’d hear it. Spooky. It wasn’t until the next day when I found out where the voice was coming from.
Most of our belongings are in boxes stacked way high in the dining room. We had to dig around a little to find our Cranium game to take to game night Saturday. Apparently something got jostled somewhere and activated some battery powered device of Satan. A game or something. So now, every 10 minutes I hear this muffled, metallic, male voice. I can’t tell what he’s saying, and thankfully the batteries are dying. Now it’s all distorted. It sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher is stuck in a box in our dining room. It’s slowly.driving. me. insane. Mwah wah wah weh whaaaa. Arrgh! -
It’s Good to be Queen

Birthday recap: Saturday night we went to my sister Sara’s for a riotous night of Cranium, pizza, presents, and cake. That’s Morgan and I in the picture with my snazzy birthday tiara! Ha! Kevin and Margarita gave me a beautiful shadow box frame and pear scented candles. Marc, Sara, Jake, Amy, & Landon all went in together to get me a whole cool package including: the new Liz Phair cd, some pretty placemats & napkins, a cool color drippy candle, Grease on DVD
, and a fondue pot complete with little sauce cups and color coded fondue fork sticks! And my mom gave me a beautiful silver charm bracelet.
There were tons of cards- even cards from Nelson, Roger, & Sam (the pets!). Everything was perfect- exactly what I wanted! Again, I need to recommend Cranium. If you’ve never played, you don’t know what you’re missing- but get ready to see your friends do the funniest things, and get ready to laugh until you go into silent or wheezy mode!
Sunday Jon and I went to Waldhorn for brunch. It’s this great German restaurant. It was so good- what a spread! All homemade breads and desserts and an omelet station. After brunch we did a little birthday gift certificate shopping at Pier One and Restoration Hardware where we got a bunch of cute stuff for the new house. Then met up later with Mom, Hale, Morgan, Sara, and Jake for dinner at Nakato (Japanese Steak House). So fun- so good. Jake was so good the whole time- which is quite a feat for a 4 month old in a busy, loud, restaurant!
We came home and watched Pumpkin then saw that our Ebay moving sale did really well. It was a great weekend! -
Thank You!
Thank you for all of your birthday well wishes…they came true! I had a fabulous birthday weekend. 30 doesn’t feel too old so far. =) We’re really busy at work this morning so the details will have to wait. You guys are all so sweet! I have much to be thankful for. -
The big 3-0
Today’s the day! We had so much fun last night at my sister’s. I’ll tell you about it later…we’re off to birthday brunch! -
Presents!
Jon gave me my birthday present last night! He always knows exactly what I want even before I do. What a sweet boy I have. He upgraded my Palm! I’ve been using a Palm 100 (the first base model) for about 3 years. I love it and use it every single day. The new pda is the new Palm Zire 71. It’s so cool! It has rechargable batteries (yay!), a cute little joystick thingy, it plays mp3’s (I know they are music files, now I’ll just need to figure out how to use them), a color screen that’s big and easy to read, and the coolest part…a digital camera! Now I can be a spy!

The last days of my youth ;)
Really busy at work today. Not much time to update. I walked in to my desk being all decorated for me by my co-workers for my upcoming birthday! That was fun! Last couple of days have been hectic dealing with the whole house thing. Good news, the sellers have completed all their repairs and we should be good to go! Jon’s having the house inspected again next week, so hopefully that will go well.
Had a great time with Sara and Jake the other day. Making him laugh is just the best thing ever, and we were doing lots of that. Dinner last night with my friend Holly was a lot of fun, plus we ate at my friend Chris’ seafood restaurant so it was excellent as usual (mmmm, shrimp and grits!). It was good to catch up with Holly & her little girl (so cute!). She’s one of those friends that even though she lives far away now it’s like no time passes when we hang out so it takes the long distance out of the equation. Rachel and Emily are like that too. I’m really blessed to have friends like that in addition to local ones. Plus, fun places to visit! In other news I’ve been approved by my job to start a project I’ll be revealing soon. Once we’re settled in the house get ready for some news about a new venture (no it’s not a baby, unfortunately) that I’ll be launching on the side.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!! -
We got rained out of Night Beat. Bummer. We’re disappointed because we really wanted to see Dana’s last performance! Oh well.
I have so much I need to get done today and tomorrow I’m putting off getting started- I know FLYlady wouldn’t like that! I’ve got to go to the DMV and get my liscense renewed (just to have to get a new one in 2 weeks when we move to another state! arrgh!), I have to buy a wedding shower gift for my friend Michelle, I’m visiting with Sara and Jake (yay!), I have jewelry to make for tomorrow, I have to take a friend to the hospital for surgery in the moring, the plumber’s coming just before that, I have to squeeze in some packing somewhere, I have to take a necklace to Tiffany to be repaired, I’m meeting my friend Holly for dinner tomorrow, and I’m sure there’s something else that I’ve forgotten. Jeez, I’m tired just looking at that list. Maybe I should just take a nap instead… =)
