The most horrifying baby shower cake ever. I don’t even know what else to say about this. Except if anything like that ever showed up at a shower for me, there’d be a fight.

I took the pugs to the vet for their annual exams yesterday. It was a good time to try out their new Puppia harnesses. They’d both outgrown the old harnesses. These harnesses are great. They are much easier to get on and off and the pugs seem to really like them. They are much softer than the traditional nylon harnesses, and Kea’s used to rub her little armpits and they’d get red. I bought them here and the shipping was fast. So far I’m really happy with them. I thought I’d also take this time to show off their new
“>skull collars. Kiki and Molly both needed new collars and the basic nylon ones were $9 at Target. I grabbed a couple of those thinking I couldn’t afford the cute ones. Then I spied these for $3.99 each. Woohoo! They are leather with embroidered skulls with green sequins for eyes. You may notice some orange in the pic. That’s spaghetti o juice that Joey splat on Molly when he was feeding the pugs his lunch (we stopped by their house on the way home from the vet). So it turns out Molly is fat (22.5 lbs) and bald (some hair never grew in on her underside- apparently dogs can have pattern baldness run in families too) and Kiki’s allergies have gotten worse. So now she’s on a bigger daily pill. Oy. Kiki’s weight is fine (16 lbs).
I picked up a nasty head cold somewhere (in May?!?) so my foggy brain is all over the place and I’m having a hard time wrapping up this post. So I’ll leave you with a new tea love. I had a cup of Perfectly Pear White Tea by Celestial Seasonings when I got my hair cut last and I just loved it. I found some at Bloom and have been making it into iced tea. Very nice. Go get you some. -
Molly’s famous!
Her picture is featured over at Stuff on my Mutt! Go check her out! -
I promised y’all a while back that I’d post about my favorite grocery store. This may not be interesting to some of you, but grocery stores are a big deal in the Bless Your Heart house. CSP is a co-manager of one and has been working for that company since 1990. And I worked for 4 different grocery store chains. Because of this background, I’m a tough customer. And I usually don’t like grocery shopping too much. Reminded me of work. Until we moved into our new house and I started shopping at Bloom. I love shopping there. It’s unlike any other grocery store. Lisa will tell you. The last time she visited we shopped there and she couldn’t believe it. Employees waving to us and shouting hellos from acrosss the departments. We didn’t know these people, they’re just friendly. And this may sound weird, but the store smells good.
Here are some other reasons why I love it: (more…) -
Sunday I met up with my Mama, Morgan, and Papa at McGill Rose Garden. Sara and the boys couldn’t join us because Jake and Joey were sick with hand foot & mouth disease. Poor things. Anyway, we strolled around the gardens and I took some pictures. Papa is on the board at the gardens so we go every year. It’s neat to have such a beautiful place in the middle of a big city. Then we went out to dinner. Mom chose Red Lobster, along with the rest of NC. I gave her her presents while we waited then we had a fun dinner. It was only the 2nd time Papa had ever been to a Red Lobster. I don’t understand how that’s possible.
After dinner I came home and CSP and I enjoyed the rest of our evening. He’d been out with his parents for the afternoon. I can’t wait til Ling Ling is home then we won’t have to have separate Mother’s Days. Plus, it will be so cool to be one of the mamas. -

Papa had to have some spots checked out on his ear. That hard rimmy part up near the top. Sure enough it was skin cancer and they removed it. So my poor Papa’s been having to walk around with this ginormo bandage on his ear. My Mama does the best she can when changing the bandage, but the ear’s a hard place for tape and gauze.
Click on the pick to see, then click all sizes at the top of the pic for a bigger one for more detail. Poor man’s been strutting around with what looks like an Always Maxi with wings stuck to his head. -
Saturday Jon and I spent the day with a dozen or so other adoptive couples in a workshop. We learned so, so much. We both agreed that every adoptive parent should attend this workshop. They covered everything from attachment to orphanage conditions, to what to expect when you’re in-country, to what to expect when you get home with your child. We walked out of there dazed and a little afraid. Asking ourselves those questions like “are we cut out to be parents?” “can we handle this?”. We also walked out of there more motivated and energized about this adoption than we have been in a while. They gave us a list of great websites and books as resources that I will post here tomorrow. My binder is in my car and Jon took my car to work tonight.
We’ve got a lot of reading to do. -
I had a busy weekend that would make for lots of fun posts and I took tons of photos to accompany them. But then I got the call this morning that my Uncle Adonis passed away last night. I’m shocked. I know he had cancer. But he just found out about it like 6 weeks ago. And he was one of the good ones. I’m sure some of you are thinking “but he’s just an uncle”. But he was so much more than that.
He bought the skating rink from my parents when I was 3. We moved from Florida to the Carolinas, but just about every summer I’d go spend the summer in my hometown and spend every chance I got at the rink. Then when I was 13 I started working there over the summer. I’d be at that rink with Uncle Adonis from 8:30 am to past midnight every night. Growing up, I spent more time with him than my own father. And he was a great man to spend time with. He taught me how to walk on my toes (curling them under- if I did that now I’d break them all!), he taught me to play the spoons, to mix music in the dj booth at the rink, to speak some Greek phrases, to drive. When I was 10 we went to Greece to meet his extended family. When I was 3 I was in his wedding to my Aunt. He has 2 children, my cousins who are in their late twenties. It breaks my heart that he won’t be able to walk my cousin Chanel down the aisle at her wedding. We kept in touch and he loved the pug pictures, covering his fridge with them and pics of my nephews. When Sara and I visited him at the rink last summer he just lit up when he saw Jake and toured him all around.
It kills me that he didn’t have a chance to be a grandfather.
He was just the best and I will miss him dearly. Here he is having a great time at the rink.
S’agapo and kali nikta Uncle Adonis.
