Tuesday I went with my Mom down to Columbia to be with her while she closed on my Grandmommy’s house. It was a bittersweet trip in that while we were glad to sell the house so quickly, it was sad to see it go. My Mom grew up in that house and so did we in a sense. The door to the back bedroom has our growth chart on it. So if anyone wants to know how tall I was in 1982 there’s a record. The guy who bought the house is the step-son of one of Gmommy’s oldest friends. He’s really excited about moving in and said it is a “fine house” with much pride in his voice. So I know he’s going to take good care of it. For those just joining us, my Gmommy has Alzheimers and now lives in an Alzheimers care facility.
After the closing Mom and I met up with one of her oldest friends, J. It was good to see her and we ate dinner at a fabulous Asian restaurant. Of course Jon was campaigning for us to go to Shealy’s so I could bring him back some chicken but I couldn’t talk them into making the drive. Once we were about 10 minutes into dinner I knew why my Mom wanted me to go with her so badly. Talking to J was like talking to a stump! She just sat there with this vague look on her face. Like a heavily medicated person staring out a window. She would ask a couple of questions and we would tell her stories yet she would never comment or nod or grunt or anything! Then when the story was over she’d just go back to eating. It was so odd. I know I am a delightful dining partner and spirited storyteller so to have her sit like a mannequin was off putting. I could have kicked my Mama for tricking me! Then she was all inviting J up to visit. I told her she was on her own for that one!
In other news…I’ve noticed some weird search words people are using to find my blog. There have always been some odd search terms but lately they’ve gotten interesting.

Hairy man boobs has been a constant for a while. No idea why anyone would willingly look for that. And I don’t know what a Shanny Shake is. I guess it’s what my bum does when I walk! So it’s gotten me curious. Lisa asked this question a while back and got some interesting answers. How did you find me? I know some of you have been reading for years, just like I’ve been reading your blogs. I can’t even remember how or when I started reading Lisanne or Bethanie or Ani. But you newbies, esp those who don’t comment often, now’s yer chance!

I do a Shannie Shuffle, but not a Shanny Shake…all though, it does involve some shaking (mostly of my backside!!) ha ha ha ha!!! But you know, I never googled that before either. I was content to shuffle for just myself!!

Hi Shannon! I found your Blog thru Lisa’s Life Love and Craziness website. I was searching for Disney photos and found hers. I linked to your blog and realized we live close to each other.. I live in Concord, so it’s always fun to read a blog of someone who lives nearby. You are a great writer, and I love all your projects, so I’m always looking around, just not commenting.

I bet that was sad.
On the stone-faced issues….that is one of my biggest pet peeves! I swear. What is with people when they can’t contribute to a conversation. And I don’t mean stupidly contribute, I mean – bounce back and forth – type of contribute that leaves you feeling like you’ve actually had a conversation! Some people are so weird.

Found your blog as a link on someone’s blog in the China adoption community last year when we started our 2nd adoption. Love your view on life and how you share it with the world. Plus, you always seem to make me smile.

I can’t remember how I found you. Probably through someone’s blogroll. I do remember reading for the first time and thinking to myself, “Oh my gosh, she’s just like me!”
Miss you, LSK VT & can’t wait to see you!

I found your blog while searching China Adoptions. I am a childless married woman who has no hope in Hell in getting my husband to change his mind an have a baby. He has one from his first marriage who is 19 and he says he doesn’t want more kids. Soooooo I just read all these blogs and get my happiness from seeing all the nice stories and beautiful pics of the babies. I love your blog and your stories. I love when you go to IKEA, we do not have an IKEA close and I sooooo miss shopping there. Keep up the funny stories Shannon and I hope your referral comes soon.

Hi Shannon! I found your blog through a Croc website (was looking at the new fall styles late late late one night) and you WON a contest there, and some FREE Crocs! AND, you had just had a similiar operation as I did… and enjoyed alot of the same hobbies/interests, so I became a ‘Bless Your Heart’ fan! :)
