Living out loud in the Carolinas

I’ve been getting some emails about my surgery and the recurring theme is “what a crappy time for surgery”. Last year I had to have a d&c just a couple of days before Christmas and this year I’m having the carpal tunnel surgery so I guess I’m getting used to it. I just can’t wait for my arms & hands not to hurt anymore. Thanksgiving was tough as it was served buffet style and after adding just 1 item to my plate I couldn’t hold my plate any longer with just one hand. I can’t hold a magazine in one hand and flip through with the other. I’m losing strength and grip and I’m having trouble opening bottles and jars now. Talking on the phone is a painful activity unless I can go hands free or cradle the phone between my head and shoulder. I had wanted to knit a scarf and hat for a Christmas present but it hurts too much so I may have to put that off.
I have a week until my right hand surgery and I can’t wait. I have so much to do in the next week- preparing my house for Christmas, wrapping presents (good thing I’m finished with my shopping), finishing my Christmas cards (I have a few left if you want to get on the list, just email me your address if I don’t have it), taking the pugs’ picture for the cards, unpacking some more boxes from the move. So much. I want to cook and freeze some meals since cooking with my left hand will be a challenge.
Now would be a good time to hire that personal assistant. I wonder if I could get one that would work for leftover Halloween candy?

Can you wear any kind of brace to relieve the pressure? How long will recovery be and when you begin to be mobale.

Whew…if I were closer I would work for leftover Halloween candy. Nothing personal but glad I’m not closer because I would mow through it and then be crabbing about my jeans ;0)

Do what you can do and don’t stress about it. The world isn’t going to fall away if everything isn’t decorated and doen just ‘perfect’.

I have braces I wear now. But they force your hand into certain positions so while wearing them I can’t do anything.
Recovery- I’ll be in bandages for about a week then my Dr said it will take about 3-4 weeks before I can really use my arm again.
You guys are so great- I really appreciate the concern! =)

are you having both done? I know the right one first… but are they going to do the left one later? Some might think it is a bad time, but just think for the new year… you will have a “new” arm hehehehe… GL sweetie!

Gosh, that sounds rough. Isn’t it such a busy season? Good luck with everything … I hope that your surgery will go just fine. Hopefully you’ll feel a LOT better afterward.

I had a surgery last Christmas that I scheduled purposely because I thought it would be nice to be home recovering with all of the decorations up. Yeah, not so much. All I did was lay around in pain and stress about everything that needed to be done and couldn’t do! Hope your recovery is easy peasy.
