Bless Your Heart

Living out loud in the Carolinas

Deja vu. I talked to Sara at about 7pm last night. She said she didn’t think she’d be going into full blown labor last night, that the contractions had lightened up a good bit, so she and Marc were just going to watch a movie and eat dinner. 9pm my cell phone rings- “We’re going to the hospital. Call Mom.” Just like when Jake was born. An early conversation where she thought she was in the clear for the night just to have the phone ring 15 minutes later. This time I didn’t change into my pj’s after call #1.

She was only dialated 2 cm when we got to the hospital at 10pm. The Dr. thought she may not have the baby until later today. But Sara knows her body and knew she was going to go fast. So she went ahead and asked for the epidural. Good thing because she dialated to 9cm in no time and by 2am they were breaking her water. Jenil the nurse got her all set up for the labor and after only 1 session of pushing his little head was right there. Jenil had to make Sara stop pushing or the baby was gonna fly right out! Jenil called for the Dr. and you could see that while we were waiting each contraction was just pushing him out. Even when Sara would laugh he would try and inch out.

The Dr. came in and pulled the baby right out. It was the fastest birth ever. We couldn’t believe it. And there he was- Joseph Marc. 6lbs 10 ozs, red hair, dark blue grey eyes (we think- he hasn’t kept them open long and they had all that gook on them), and he has my smooshy lips. 10 wee fingers and toes- so tiny! Skinny little arms and legs. The sweetest little boy.

And Jake- my goodness. He went to bed last night an only child! He has his “I’m a big brother” t-shirt to wear to visit Joey today. Here are some pictures: More photos here.

I can’t wait to go back and see him. And to see Jakey. We were at the hospital until a little after 5 this morning. Joey was nursing well so we left him to eat breakfast. Right now I’m in need of a good nap!
