I have to confess something. I’m sure it will make people slackjawed in amazement, but it must come out. A dear friend and I have been arguing about this for weeks now and it’s come to the point where I must turn to my fellow bloggy people to find out where you stand. Am I in the minority here? Ok, here it is:
I don’t like jeans. I don’t wear them, I don’t own a pair, I don’t like the way I look in them. They make me too hot when I wear them. I especially loathe colored jeans (like khaki or black). Why would you wear colored jeans when you could just wear colored pants. I don’t like the way they look on most adults, especially women. It creeps me out a little if I see a man over the age of 30 wearing a pair. It really creeps me out when a woman over the age of 30 is wearing a pair and they obviously are 2 sizes too small. Jon owns 2 pair of jeans. One is strictly for doing yard work and the other is for bumming around. But he rarely wears them out to a restaurant or something.
Now, my 14 year old sister who is nothing but legs and stands almost 6 feet tall and has the flattest tummy and perkiest rear looks FABULOUS in jeans. And if I had her body I would wear jeans all day. Well, if I had a body like that you’d be hard pressed to get me into clothes, but when you did I may pick jeans. So to my little sister and all who look like her- wear your jeans!
I also don’t like sneakers that much. They don’t look good with khaki or black pants (my pant staples) so I don’t wear them unless I’m out walking, working in the yard, or something like that. I don’t understand why people would wear big clunky sneakers when they could wear flip flops or cute flats or something.
Now, my friend loves her jeans and wears them all the time. She says I always look dressed up like I’m going to a funeral home because I wear black or khaki pants all the time instead of jeans. Black pants are the backbone to my wardrobe. Standard or capris, you can dress them up or down. And I know that in a pair of black pants and a cute top I can go from the grocery store to a nice dinner and not feel underdressed.
So, here’s the question: am I overdressing by not wearing jeans? Do I constantly look like I just left a memorial service? Or, am I just making wise fashion decisions? Lemme know what you think, and if you are a jeans person or not- I’m curious now!

Jeans are all I wear. And tennis shoes. Everyone I know wears jeans. Maybe it’s a Texas thing? No, I don’t think you are overdressed. I should start dressing better myself. But jeans are all I know and I’m sort of clueless about slacks. I own one pair of slacks that I only bought to wear to a job interview. I think I’ve gotten stuck in the college way of dressing. Pretty sad indeed.

I believe I could be the “dear friend” you are talking about. LOL I love wearing Jeans, the are comfy, look great with a sweater and Tennis shoes. Some times you just gotta be comfy. Andrea….It’s not a Texas thing, most of the free world wears Jeans, Shannon just likes to look all dressy all the time! I would also like to clearify that When I tell her she is looking like she is going to a funeral home it is because I have black slacks and the only place I wear them is to viewings at the funeral home! But I will give my dear friend this she always looks cute!

I like wearing jeans on the weekends when I’m bumming around the apartment or store, but I rarely wear tennis shoes with them. In my mind, tennis shoes/sneakers/what-have-you are for working out or for doing yard work. I could never wear them to the mall or anything as they make my feet too hot. I tend to like to dress-up my jeans by wearing nice loafers or sandals or even heels. I like wearing black or khaki slacks when I’m not wearing jeans. I’d wear them all the time if I could. I admire that you have your own style and don’t want to look like everyone else, especially on the weekends at the mall!

Hi Shannon. If I am not in my work clothes which includes a nice pair of slacks or a skirt with nice flat shoes or boots my clothing of choice for the weekend are sneakers and jeans. I don’t know if it has to do with the part of the country I am or what but it just feels more comfortable to me. I am dressed up five days a week that my two days off I want to be as comfy as possible. During the summer I do occasionally wear capris, khakis or shorts with cute sandals. My mom however who lived in Armenia till 30 is always in skirts and cute shoes. She would never think of pants, although on vacation and only on vacation she will wear some colorful capri pants. So in summary(lol)its a personal preference maybe having to do wtih environment as well. Whatever makes you happy.

I’m over 30, I have one pair of jeans that I wear only occasionally when I have nothing else to wear. I don’t particularly care for jeans either but once I found some with lycra in them, they at least felt a little better, even if they didn’t look much better.
I don’t really care for sneakers either, but I want to start walking more, so I’m on the prowl for sneakers that don’t look like sneakers. They make them in brown and black leather and other colors too but I’ve yet to find any I’m willing to pay for, so I’m still searching.
Since there are all these alternatives available, there must be others who feel the same way.

I find it interesting that most people who are jeans people state that comfort is their number 1 priority and that’s why they wear jeans. Do you think I’m walking around being uncomfortable all day? My $7.40 black pants are some of the most comfortable I own. And pants doesn’t necessarily mean slacks. I have lots of very comfy twill and stretchy (yet not spandex-y) pants. I’m all about comfort people, I figure I might as well look good too!

I think it’s a southern thing. Every time I am down there visiting you, no one is wearing jeans. Even in the mall. I apparently have 5 jeans wearing years left, though-I’m not quite thirty!

I am with you Shanny..I am not much of a “jeans” person. I do own two pair and I wear them mainly on the weekend or going grocery shopping. Otherwise it is my black slacks or brown slacks. I like to be comfy and cute.
