Living out loud in the Carolinas

I’m a Medical Abnormality

I had my follow up visit with my OBGYN today. She checked my incisions (which look like Frankenstein to me, but she says they are healing nicely) and reviewed my surgery and my baby making options with me.

So as it turns out, there was no cantaloupe cyst. The nurse doing the ultra sound saw what she thought was a cyst, but it turns out it was my Fallopian tube! It had somehow twisted and became engorged with blood. It’s supposed to be this tiny, smooth pink thing. But instead it grew to cantaloupe proportions! My Dr. said she’d never seen anything like it. Especially the twisting of the tube, which she called “Very dramatic.” She said she showed my pictures to all of her colleagues who oohed and ahhed. My girlie bits are now famous in the medical community.

Bottom line is that because of all the tube twisting trauma, my tube was no longer viable and she had to remove it. So my one healthy ovary is now floating around in there with no tube, so no way to get eggs to the uterus (outside of harvesting). My other tube is in good shape, but the ovary it’s connected to is not. =( But my Dr. is going to be very aggressive with our situation and hopes to have me pregnant within the next 6 months. Woohoo!

By the way, she said no one knows why or how my tube would twist like that. She said that it’s really rare, but that since my tube has been removed, it will not likely happen to the other tube. She hopes. At least we know now why I haven’t been able to get pregnant even though we’ve been trying for 2 years!!

So keep your fingers crossed that soon we’ll be able to dress up a human to pose in our holiday pug pictures!
