Bumpy Road Boy

Our friends Kevin and Margarita had their first child Monday night. Nicholas Fernando was born at 8:45pm and weighed 9 lbs. 8 oz and was 21 inches long. He is just the cutest! Here’s a picture of the happy family:

Little Nicholas’ birth was not easy. Margarita’s water broke early Monday, but by Monday night there was still no baby. By this time the baby had poopied in the fluid- apparently that can be dangerous. The doctor did another exam and decided they needed to take the baby by c-section. Kevin watched the whole thing and was just traumatized! When they made the cut into the birth sac thing the baby didn’t come out like he should have. So they used a suctiony plunger thing and still nothing. So they used the forceps and still couldn’t get Nick to budge! Finally the doctor reached in with his hands and had to wrench the baby out (he was stuck under her rib cage). They

cleaned out his airways (from the poopie fluid situation) and he finally started to cry.

He’s so sweet and so cute, and thankfully so safe and healthy. Cute story about his middle name- Fernando. Margarita is from Ecuador and her father’s name is Fernando. She came to this country just a few years ago and met Kevin. Kevin’s father’s middle name is Fernando. What are the chances? And- his parent’s anniversary is the same as her parent’s wedding anniversary! They were meant to be a family. I am just so happy for them!
