weird pet names

rachel mentioned a weird pet name she saw on a dog license application and that got me to thinking about pets & their weird names. mine are weird. but there’s a method to the madness. some people think it’s silly to name your pets something other than max or whiskers, but we figure why not have fun with their names? we’re pretty sure they won’t suffer any long term damage. the only downside is the vet seems to have a hard time remembering how to pronounce 1 of them. so here are the stories…

dabrie came first. husband and i were joking one day about how hard it’s going to be to name our children due to our unusual last name. so we said we might as well give them the most ridiculous names ever. of course we would never do that to our kids, but the idea stuck. we had come up with a couple of names and we talked about how we thought the word debris sounds so pretty but it means what it means. so when we adopted dabrie from the shelter it sorta fit. we changed the spelling to DaBrie and added DuBois for her middle name. when nimbus came along she was a wee bitty baby kitty and was all white like a cloud. so husband wanted to name her after a cloud. i picked jamiroquai because i thought it sounded like the most fun band name ever. we named kenichi the amazing japanese fighting fish after one of the iron chefs from the food network. nelson was the last to come to join the family. . he had been given the name nelson at the shelter where we adopted him. his original name was lucky, but they have so many named lucky that they change the names. we thought and thought for a new name for him, but we liked nelson so much it stuck. we didn’t give him a middle name until after his wreck when he had to wear his big satellite collar. we thought he looked just like the pixar lamp. so he’s now nelson pixar. and there you have it. because our pets have such good senses of humor our children can be spared silly names!
