Living out loud in the Carolinas

give a little…or a lot

i just read on usatoday.com about the coolest site. there’s a man named keith who lives in tennessee who gives roughly 12% ($400) of his gross monthly income to people who need it. he does it through a website he just launched a couple of months ago. it’s called modest needs. it’s not a site for corporate philanthropy or for paying huge bills. they won’t pay your credit card debt. what keith will do though is send you $90 often from his own checkbook to buy groceries, or $75 to fix your car, etc. it’s for modest needs. i think it’s such a cool idea. he started it because he likes the idea of christian tithing- where you give 10% of your income to help people in your church. although these days the $$ tends to go toward church bills and not very often to the congregation. which is ok, the church has bills to pay. he explains his philosophy much better than i can in the “news” section. i get my bonus next week. i’m totally sending a check. you should go read about the site and send him $5. i know you can. you never know when you’ll need $60 to pay that dental bill.
