Hospitals and the search for baklava
Last night after work Jon and I went to see our friend Kevin in the hospital . On Monday he had the same gastric bypass surgery Carnie Wilson did. He’s doing ok in spirit but in a lot of pain physically. He’ll be out of the hospital on Friday but won’t go back to work for 6 weeks. Jon hates hospitals and even just walking up to it he was all “I can smell it already. I hate that smell!” You know the one…antiseptic mixed with urine and vomit that’s been cleaned up. Ew. I was so glad Jon was off work to go with me because although Kevin was glad to see me his little face lit up when Jon walked in the room. Kev’s mom was there so we all chatted for a while and Kev showed us his incision. Holy Moly that thing is huge. All the way from just under the sternum almost to the pelvis area. And it was stapled. I thought I was going to pass out. I can totally take blood. And even stitches. But to see staples in his poor skin was just too much.
After leaving the hospital we set out on a search for Baklava. I had to bring it in for Food Day today. It’s a diversity thing. I’m on the committee and today we’re having a Greek themed brunch. You can not find baklava in this city to save your life! At least not at the grocery stores. Even the ethnic stores were out because some of them think of it as a holiday dish. So I went to Athen’s restaraunt and had to buy 16 individual servings. Cost me over $25!! I hope everyone enjoys it. It’s pretty good stuff. At this point it was too late for me to be cooking dinner so we went to Champps for dinner. We had the Thai chicken pizza & chicken quesadillas.
When we got home I made a copy of the new BNL greatist hits cd that Bad Shannon lent me. It’s a good one. Those wacky Canadians bring me such joy.
