July Ipsy Glam Bag!

My July Ipsy Glam Bag came today!  Super cute bag filled with all new to me products!

IMG_5592

The breakdown:

  • Pur-lisse SPF 30 Sunscreen.  Perfect for travel and it’s supposedly good for sensitive skin.  Yay!IMG_5593
  • Bare Minerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow.  The color is a dark taupeish color.  It doesn’t say which shade it is on the teeny tiny bottle.  A little dark for me for Summer but I’ll use it for sure in the Fall. IMG_5597
  • Clear Clinic Vanished Clear Spot Treatment.  It’s a tiny bottle of pimple treatment. Good for travel when my skin almost always acts up!IMG_5596
  • Tints & Sass Fabulous Lip & Cheek Stain by Elizabeth Mott in Cherry.  I’m a wee bit afraid of this as I have such fair skin. I don’t want to look like Raggedy Ann with big red cheeks.  But I’ll try it! IMG_5594
  • Models Own nail polish in Red Sea. It’s a reddish orangeish coral with holographic glitter floating around in there!  Can’t wait to try it! IMG_5595

Hunger Games Nail Polish

I am a HUGE fan of the Hunger Games books and I am SO excited about the movie!  Usually I don’t get too excited about promotional tie ins but I saw the Hunger Games nail polishes by China Glaze and fell in love!  They have a ton of gorgeous colors.    I controlled myself though and chose 2.   I chose Riveting and Luxe and Lush.  LOVE them!   I also really like Fast Track, Stone Cold, Hook and Line, and Smoke and Ashes but a girl’s on a budget.  Electrify was pretty amazing looking too.  Luxe and Lush goes on clear with big chunks of pearlized glitter.  I like it over Riveting for my fingers and Riveting alone on my toes.  I’ll be all decked out for the premiere!   By the way, another reason I can’t wait to see the movie is that it was filmed right here in NC!  They filmed in Charlotte, Concord (just North of CLT), and outside of Asheville.  Funny, I don’t remember Lenny Kravitz asking me to hobknob with him!

Shellac…the end

Well, it’s been 18 days and my Shellac manicure (a UV light cured gel manicure that I got for free but goes for $25 in my salon) still looks great!    Click to enlarge.  My nails are still shiny, hard, and shimmery.  There is the slightest bit of wear noticeable on the white tips (really more on the corners).  Mind you, I haven’t worn gloves and I’ve been doing all the regular life things like washing dishes, typing, etc.  The only real problem is that my nails are growing and the growth has become obvious in the nail bed.   From arm’s length my nails don’t look too bad but I’m ready for a change.  So tomorrow I’ll soak them for 10 minutes in acetone, wipe off the gel polish then paint them with a regular nail polish.  I am thoroughly impressed with the Shellac manicure and I will definitely get it again.  Especially for  special occasions like our upcoming Disney cruise!

The premature death of the red carpet manicure

Things were going along really well between me and my Red Carpet Manicure.   I’m pretty sure it could have stuck around for a good while longer if I weren’t so fidgety.  Right at day 8 I was up in Blowing Rock with a bunch of girl friends.  I was waiting for some of them to finish shopping at the Mast Store Annex.  Next thing I knew I was peeling my polish off.  That stuff came off in sheets!  It was amazing.  There were a couple of nails that were chipping around the cuticles and I couldn’t help myself, I kept picking at it.   See, those look pretty nice!  Sorry about the picture quality.  I took this using my old iPhone 3G.  Anyway, surprisingly, my nails were in decent shape under that polish.  I’d definitely use the Red Carpet Manicure again.  And next time I won’t mess with them so much.

Fit for the red carpet

Last weekend was girls’ weekend in Valle Crucis.  One of the very girly things we did was give ourselves manicures.  Christina bought the Red Carpet Manicure system from Ulta.  I bought 2 new colors to try.  Gigi went with a deep purple.  Christina and I both went with …And the Winner Is, which is a sparkly teal (not sure why it doesn’t look very teal in the picture).  The Red Carpet Manicure is supposed to be very similar to the new gel manicures you can get in a salon, like Shellac.  I totally forgot to take a picture of my nails on day 1.  Or 2- 3 for that matter.  But here I have for you day 4.    My nails are still super shiny.  There is no discernible wear on the tips of my nails.  Please keep in mind I painted my own nails after a few cocktails that include the wickedly delicious whipped cream vodka.  That stuff is NOT YOUR FRIEND.  Sure, it smells delish.  It tastes fab.  But then you wake up the next day with a furry tongue and nail polish all up in your cuticles yo.  Anyway, so far I’m really loving this manicure.  My nails feel thick and strong.  Besides cuticle oil there’s no upkeep.  They just stay shiny and sparkly!  This manicure is supposed to last around 2 weeks.  Stay tuned for updates!

5 things I love in June

  • eBay.  Don’t be all like “Dude, I was loving eBay back in 2001.”  Yeah, I know.  But I went a while without shopping on eBay and over the last year I’ve gotten back into it.   There are some serious deals to be had.  I fell in love with these earrings at a Lia Sophia jewelry party a while back.   But they were like $24 or something.  I found them on eBay for $6.  With shipping.  They are my absolute favorite earrings.
  • My latest eBay purchase is actually a birthday present from CSP.  I’ve been coveting my sister Sara’s Black Rapid camera strap.  Well, those sell for upwards of $50.  I found it on eBay for $18 with shipping!  Mine may be a different brand, I’m not sure as it came from Brooklyn and while it was new in the package (like the earrings-used earrings would be gross) it has a Q on it instead of an R.  Whatever.  It works the same and now we have $$ left over!  I love it so much!  It holds the camera down on your hip so it’s not bouncing off the girls right in my way.  LOVE.
  • Revlon Scents of Summer Nail Polish.  Scented nail polish.  At first I was dubious.  I bought the Coconut Crush and the Ocean Breeze at CVS for less than $1 each with coupons.  I use the Ocean Breeze on my toes (makes me feel like a mermaid) & the Coconut Crush on my fingers.  It really smells like coconuts!  Plus the colors are fab.  I painted Olivia’s nails with the aqua as the base and white polka dots.  She said her hands smelled “refreshing”.
  • Cuddling in the bed watching movies with CSP & the pugs.
  • Adele.  Buy her album 21.  It’s amazing.  I can’t stop listening to it.  19 is fabulous too, but right now 21 is on repeat in my car.

I am a siren of the sea

Behold!  On the left is my new favorite fingernail polish.  The brands don’t matter here.  It’s the color that matters.  My favorite Christmas colors are purple, aqua, lime green & hot pink so I wanted to paint my nails to be festive.  The purple is Sally Hansen.  It’s a deep purple with a bluish tint.  Kinda what I picture that indigo to be in ROYGBIV.  Makes me feel far more edgy and hip than I am.  I’d show you a picture of my actual stubby little fingers but my manicure is chipped right awful from all this unpacking.  I’m just not made for manual labor!

On the right is my new favorite toe nail polish.  Yes I know it’s December but unpainted toe nails give me the creeps. It’s a super glittery aqua.  I got it in a cheap 4 pack while looking for the perfect purple.  The “purple” in the multipack was really a blue parading around as purple.  The brand is LA Colors and I got it at CVS for like $3 for the 4 pack.  I was a little worried that I might be too pale to pull off such dark and bold colors but I think they work.  I’d show you a pic of my actual toes but who really likes to look at other people’s toes except for toe pervs?  Plus my left big toe is all wonky since I had an ingrown toenail taken care of an all he left me was a tiny sliver of a nail.  Sadist! Conservative CSP was appropriately shocked and dismayed and cried “GREEEEEN????” when he saw my toes as if it was the end of the world as he knows it.  I corrected him that it is NOT green but a lovely aqua.  It makes me feel like a mermaid. And who doesn’t want to be a mermaid?
